How To Cut an Avocado

Introduction:

Welcome to this week’s episode of Prep School! This video is all about mastering the art of cutting an avocado with ease. Avocados are a nutrient-dense powerhouse, packed with healthy fats, fiber, and essential vitamins. Whether you're adding them to toast, salads, or grain bowls, knowing how to slice them properly can make all the difference in presentation and ease of use. In this episode, I’ll show you two simple techniques to cut and prepare avocados like a pro!

Key Tips and Methods Covered in the Video:

How to Tell If Your Avocado is Ripe:

Before you even grab your knife, check for ripeness by gently pressing the avocado. It should have a slight give without being too soft. Another trick is to remove the small stem at the top—if it's green underneath, your avocado is perfectly ripe and ready to use!

Chef’s Knife Method:

  1. Slice around the avocado lengthwise with a chef’s knife, rotating it around the pit.

  2. Twist the two halves apart.

  3. Safely remove the pit by tapping it with the blade of the knife and twisting it out.

  4. Keep the avocado in the skin and slice it while still intact for easy scooping.

Spoon & Cutting Board Method for Elegant Presentation:

  1. Use a spoon to scoop out the avocado half in one clean motion.

  2. Flip it over onto a cutting board and slice it into thin, even pieces.

  3. Gently press down on the slices to fan them out for a beautiful presentation—perfect for toast, salads, and bowls!

Why Avocados Are Essential for Your Meals:

Avocados are more than just delicious—they’re packed with nutrients that support heart health, brain function, and overall well-being. They provide:
✅ Healthy monounsaturated fats for sustained energy
✅ Fiber to aid digestion and keep you full
✅ Essential vitamins like potassium, folate, and vitamin E

Closing Notes:

With these simple techniques, you’ll never struggle with cutting an avocado again! Whether you’re prepping for the week or making a quick meal, these methods will help you slice, scoop, and serve avocados effortlessly. Try them out and enjoy perfectly cut avocados every time!
