Destemming Kale

Overview:

This week’s Prep School video is all about how to de-stem kale—because let’s be honest, those tough stems aren’t the most fun to chew. Whether you're making a salad, sautéing it, or adding it to soups, removing the stems the right way makes all the difference. In this video, I’ll show you three simple methods to strip kale leaves efficiently so you can spend less time prepping and more time enjoying your meals.

Why You Should Be Eating More Kale:

Kale is a nutrient-dense leafy green packed with:
Vitamins A, C, and K for immune support, skin health, and strong bones.
Antioxidants that help fight inflammation and support overall wellness.
Fiber to promote digestion and keep you feeling full longer.
Versatility—it works in everything from fresh salads to warm, comforting dishes.

Three Easy Ways to De-Stem Kale:

1️⃣ By Hand – The classic way! Just grab the stem with one hand and strip the leaves off with the other in one quick motion.
2️⃣ With Tongs – Use the small hole at the end of your tongs to pull the stem through—it’s oddly satisfying.
3️⃣ With a Knife – For precision, fold the leaf in half and slice along the stem to remove it cleanly.

Storage Tip:

Prepping a big batch? Store kale in an airtight container with a paper towel to absorb moisture. It’ll stay fresh for up to 5 days, making it perfect for meal prep!

Closing Notes:

Once you’ve de-stemmed your kale, you’re ready to massage it for salads, toss it into soups, or sauté it for an easy side. Check out the video to see these methods in action and make kale prep way easier!
